ekklesia

ekklesia (ek-klay-see’-ah) is the Greek word for “church”, but at its core it simply means “gathering.” This is a time to relax and connect with each other and the One in whom we find rest and purpose. It all starts with a free BBQ at 6:15 pm on Wednesday nights. During the service we pray, hear and discuss the Word of God, sing together with our teenagers, then go out to love and serve God in our daily lives. This is a great place to begin to experience what we’re all about. This is for young to middle adults.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

We have a college/young professional class that meets at 9am Sundays to dive into the Scriptures and let them shape our lives.

FILM FORUMS

We will meet informally about every other month to view a current film and discuss what it says about the world in which we find ourselves and how Christians can do something to bring the love of Christ to it.

TRULY FREE MARKET

Throughout the year we collect donations of new and like-new clothing from our larger church family. Then, three to four times a year we take all the stuff we have received to the same neighborhood, set all up like a garage sale, then give it all away. For free. Through activities like this we learn what it means to live for something bigger than ourselves alone and be the hands and feet of Jesus to people in need around the world. We also show those who are struggling that the Kingdom of God operates out of an economy of abundance, not scarcity, and they are valuable in God’s eyes and to God’s people, no matter what they can give in return.

BOOK CLUB

The last Friday of every month we meet at Barnes and Noble to discuss a book, sometimes explicitly Christian, sometimes explicity not. The goal is to build relationships with people and share ideas in a friendly, non-threatening way.

SKATE PARK

Jesus said “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because they are one of my followers, they will not lose their reward.” We simply take Jesus at his word and go to the skate park each Tuesday with bottles of cold water to give out in Jesus’ name.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Everything we do here has a purpose. We know that families are increasingly busy and we wish to respect your family time. Therefore, each activity we offer will be filtered through our purpose statement. Each activity will meet at least one core value: Equip, Reach, Worship, Connect, and Serve.

Not only do we have values driving our activities, but we also attempt to balance each value. Sure, it would be great to just have fun with each other (connect), but we know that the other purposes are just as important and must be given equal time.
